Is Something In Your House Bugging You?

So if you got here by searching “What’s the best home remedy for bugs?” you’ve come to the right place.
What’s bugging you?
Some bug problems are solvable with a little persistence.
- Fleas – You need to attack fleas on two fronts. First, seek your veterinarian’s advice for treating your pets. Some medications available now will quickly kill fleas and ticks that bite your cat, dog or other pet. Follow closely all your vet’s advice to free your pets from the misery of itchy fleas. Second, you’ll need to work hard to deal with the fleas in your home. Thoroughly vacuum all floors and all upholstered furniture daily, emptying the vacuum collection container or bag daily. Extra attention is necessary in areas where your pets like to hang out, such as the areas where they sleep. Wash all your pet’s bedding and blankets in hot water at least once a week. If they have stuffed animals, throw those in, too. You can also purchase flea traps and use flea spray.
- Cockroaches – First of all, cockroaches are not a sign of poor housekeeping. An infestation can affect the cleanest of homes. However, if you do experience an outbreak, your sanitation and cleaning will have to become even more on point than before. Wipe down every surface in the kitchen daily. Wash all dishes immediately. Take out all the garbage in the house every night. Over-the-counter sprays and baits can be tried, but if you have small children or pets in the house, use extreme caution. Some people find it helps to sprinkle a fine layer of diatomaceous earth on surfaces where they’ve seen cockroaches.
- Ants – Many of the tips are the same for ants. Be vigilant about keeping your house free of garbage or food spills. Some ants are attracted by water, so fix any hidden water leaks, such as a small leak inside a wall. Place ant traps in every area where you’ve seen ants. Again, use extreme caution with all chemical agents if you have children or pets in your home.
Want To Evict The Mouse In Your House?
Mice and rats can be harder to get rid of than you think. Try all the enhanced housekeeping measures and use the common type of mouse and rat traps, trying several types and brands in case one doesn’t work for you. A common frustration is finding tripped traps with the bait gone or traps that rodents have learned to ignore, while still noting continued evidence of an infestation. You may keep finding their droppings or even see them directly. If this is happening, you may be ready to bring in the experts. Give us a call and we’ll take care of the problem for you.
Termites Are Another Story
If you suspect you have termites – or know you do because you’ve seen them – you need professional assistance. The most effective chemicals required to treat a termite infestation are best used only by trained professionals – in some areas, such chemicals can only be applied by licensed professionals. This is one pest control job that isn’t suitable for do-it-yourselfers. These pests can literally destroy your house, and the correct and safe use of the chemicals requires careful training. Call us! We can help. We use effective chemicals that are EPA-approved, and our technicians are well-trained and certified in safe usage. For homes and non-food businesses, we use a 100 percent effective treatment called Termidor.
Can I Keep Rodents And Bugs From Getting Inside?
It takes a lot of work to deter pests. They need very small openings to gain entrance into your home. A mouse needs an opening only the size of a dime. A rat requires an opening only the size of a quarter. Bugs require even smaller openings. Inspect your entire house, and seal even the smallest cracks or other openings. Here are some DIY tips:
- Store all pet food in rodent-proof and insect-proof containers.
- Continue to practice good housekeeping.
- Choose rodent-proof and insect-proof trash cans.
- Inspect your garage and basement for such attractants as flower bulbs, grass seed, etc. Place all such items in insect-proof and rodent-proof containers.
